Do Your Own Facelift… Daily!

I just discovered my new favorite yoga moves!! These poses will not only improve your flexibility, but could assist you in performing your own mini-facelift!  No surgery required!  Try it mid-day, it will also wake you up!

Want more BANG!  Add a true anti-aging moisturizer and you will really see results.

By TRUE, I mean something without WATER!  Most moisturizers are close to 70% water.  Water does not hydrate your skin.  In fact, it does not get absorbed at all.  Instead, it evaporates and as it does, it takes with it some of your own protective natural oils.  This further dehydrates your skin.  Let me give you a visual.  Would you rather have skin like a plum or a prune?

I’m sure your answer is plum- it’s full, round and full of “juice”!  It’s healthy!  A prune (while I love to eat them) is really a dehydrated plum.  When you use a moisturizer that contains water and it pulls the moisture from your skin, you end up dehydrated.  Dehydrated skin looks saggy, sallow and wrinkled (like the prune).

Work-In Pilates TODAY!!

Work your core, strengthen your muscles, improve your mind and body… but remember to create a variety of interests.  Don’t get stuck in a yogi-rut.  Experiment with Pilates and you will not only improve the integrity of your spine, but your yoga practice will improve too!

Today’s yoga session is actually a Pilates experience. If you are a yogi, it is very beneficial to alternate different types of yoga, or add a few pilates classes to your schedule. Stacey is the owner of Barre Pose Studio in Akron, Ohio and she describes the benefits of pilates and takes the staff of Primal Life Organics through a 15 minute class! Enjoy! Work-In Yoga With Tracy Rinehart

This week starts our Guest Yoga Instructor Classes!

Tracy Rhinehart gives us a full body stretch with a twist on the mind connection. Have you ever experienced a word-box?  Have you set your intention or just let “life happen”?  Is it easy for you to focus… or could you use a little assistance?

Tracy has developed her own twist on focus and intention by creating a Word-box.  I have had a strong desire for my own set because I am a believer in uplifting the mind beyond the limits I have set.  What I mean is this, sometimes i create boundaries for my mind.  I have read that we only use 10% of our brains… and I know I have set limits that never come close to my full potential.  When I try to set my own intentions, i do it within the boundaries of my own limitations that I have already “pre-set”.  But when I let “chance” happen, I can do so much more.

For instance, with my company, Primal Life Organics, if I had set my intention for my company within the boundaries of my comfort-zone… it would never be what it is today.  Instead, when the conception formed, I removed the boundaries of “what ifs” and created an open space of ideas in my mind.  I never formed a “word” for this intention, I just let each set it’s own intention and focused on achieving more than what I envisioned.

Today, I use the word-box Tracy developed to help create my intention for each day.

Word-Box: Set your intention

Sometimes the meaning behind the word I pick is immediately clear.  Other times, it is a mystery that gets revealed during the day.  None-the-less, my focus is set and my daily intention is far greater than my mind can set and I accomplish so much more.  The WORD becomes my daily mantra… today’s word is COURAGE and I immediately knew the meaning behind it.  It is clear that I can do anything I have the courage to face.

Pain-In-The-Neck Yoga!

Do You Suffer From Neck Pain????  I do… and it sucks!!

I recently spent the entire day rehabilitating my locked-up neck!  It was so tight, I ended tn177-4a0ba31f-aee5-4f1a-8014-fc056e458f4a-v2up with a horrible migraine and could not even move my head.  I have suffered from migraines since I was a child, and have had neck pain for the past seven years that has been getting worse as time goes by.  Over the years I have incorporated various alternative therapy modalities that have improved my mobility, decreased the frequency of my migraines and keeps me off prescription pain meds.  I currently use minimal advil as the only conventional medication.

As a nurse, and more specifically, as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who has been the anesthesia provider in various orthopedic and neurological OR’s, I know I am not alone.

Doctors estimate that seven out of 10 people will be troubled by such pain at some point in their lives. One in 10 adults is hurting right now. And between 50% to 85% of people with such pain will be bothered by it again within the next five years. (

My goal has always been to resolve the problems that are causing the neck pain.  On my journey, I have found numerous alternative therapies extremely helpful.  I want to share what has worked for me… as my neck mobility is very much improved and the frequency of my migraines has drastically decreased.  These are the therapies I use to keep me mobile and moving!

Trina’s Preventative and Restorative Alternative Therapies for Neck Pain

(Please note: this is not intended to replace medical advice, medications and therapies.  Please consult a licensed physician before instituting any of these practices.)

  1. Hot Yoga: the heat helps warm the muscles and allows for more movement.  Stretching exercises are coupled with breathing to increase capacity.  I avoid all inversions that put strain on the neck.  Favorite stretches include

    ($73) helps people with cervical spondylopathy (age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal joints and discs in the neck that causes pain) do self-treatments.  Frequent use of the device will help people prevent cervical spondylopathy, relieve cervical pain and fatigue, release clinical symptoms by air traction.  This traction device is similar to cervical traction collars, except it has inflatable balloons on the inside.  When inflated, this decompresses the spine and stretches the muscles, all while keeping proper alignment.  Use: 2-3 times a day, for 5-10 minutes.   4.  Teeter EP-560 Inversion Table with Back Pain Relief Kit ($378) Pricey, but totally worth the investment.  Lengthens the spine and has so many benefits, I can’t possibly define them all!  Please read this or watch this for the benefits of inverting yourself like a bat!  Use: 5 days a week, usually before bedtime.
  5. Cryotherapy (full body or local)- the use of intense cold to decrease inflammation and speed healing.  There are numerous benefits to cryotherapy.  I typically do full body cryotherapy treatments 4-6 days a week.  When my neck becomes locked up or painful, I will opt for a local treatment to my neck and shoulders instead.  To read more about the benefits of cryotherapy, read this.

  7. Meditation: benefits, too numerous to mention.  I really enjoy using the MUSE Headband because it provides biofeedback WHILE you are meditating!  It has greatly improved my meditation practice!  Mediation calms me, keeps me focused, provides energy and inspires me.  Practice: 7-12 minutes daily.
